Callers at your door

Don’t let a thief into your home!

Please stop and think before you let a stranger into your home, no matter who they claim to be.

Criminals may pretend to be from a utility company so they can get into peoples’ homes and steal money or valuables. And more than half of bogus callers pose as water company employees.

Remember: STOP, CHAIN, CHECK

Don’t let them in – use your door chain if you have one, or speak to them through a locked door.

Check their identity card with the chain on, or through your letterbox. Take your time to look at it carefully.

Think: are you expecting anyone? It’s unusual for us to call without an appointment.

Look for our logo on their clothes and van. This is our logo:

Call us on 01202 590059 to check that they are genuine. Our staff will not mind waiting outside.

If in doubt, keep them out!

Do not let them in if they say they are from "the Water Board." Water Boards do not exist anymore!

Call the police immediately if someone tries to get in or manages to enter your home.

Simple tips to stay safe

  • register a password with us – our staff will use it if they need to visit your property
  • always keep your front and back doors locked
  • use your door chain when you answer the door or speak to callers through a window or the shut door
  • never keep large amounts of cash in your home
